About Shimoga City

Shimoga is a city situated in the central part of Karnataka. It is district headquarters of its eponymous district. Shimoga is about 267 kilometres to north-west from state capital Bangalore. From the port city, Mangalore distance of Shimoga is about 195 kilometres. The district of Shimoga has Haveri, Davangere, Chikkamaglur, Udupi and Uttar Kannada as its neighbours. Geographically, Shimoga is part of a region called Malnad or ‘land of hills’ in Karnataka. As Shimoga is the gateway to western Ghats its also knows as “ Gateway to Malnad”.The city is situated on the banks of river Tunga. It is also surrounded by lush green paddy fields, areca nut and coconut groves. Climate wise, the average temperature of Shimoga lies between 20-35 degrees in summer.

Shimoga is a commercially advanced city. Apart from already established industries and marketplaces, the city also got its IT Park in recent years.
