About Chikmagalur City
Chikmagalur is a hill station on the foothills of Mullayanagiri peak in Karnataka. The city is officially known as Chikkamagaluru. A picturesque city lying in the western ghats, Chikmaglur is known for its pleasant climate. The distance of the city from the state’s capital Bangalore is approximately 240 kms (4 h 30 min drive). Chikmagalur city is the headquarter of Chikmaglur district.
The district shares its borders with Udupi, Dakshin Kannada, Hassan, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Devanagere and Shimoga. Another city closer to Chikmaglur is the port city of Mangalore. The distance between the two cities is only about 150 kms. Mangalore International airport is the closest airport to Chikmaglur.
Chikmaglur is the place where coffee cultivation was first introduced, in India. The district hence has a coffee museum. The museum is one of the numerous attractions of the town. Bhadra Wildlife sanctuary is just 98 kms from the city. Mullayanagiri peak, Hebbe falls, Hireolale lake, Kudremukh National Park, Kudramukh and several other places to visit once you are in Chikmagalur. There are also many trekking trails around Chikmagalur. Apart from all the scenic beauty, Chikmagalur is also a modern city with numerous educational institutes.
