About Tumkur City
Tumkur city is officially known as Tumakuru. It is situated merely 70 kms from the state capital Bengaluru. Other nearby cities from Tumkur is Chitradurga City and Kolar city. As an industrial city, Tumkur has an advantageous position as it is situated on the Chennai-Mumbai industrial corridor. The City has a very well developed infrastructure. It has also been chosen as a Smart City under the government project of the same name.

In fact, Shaikshanika Nagari or city of education is another name by which Tumkur is often referred to. The city has a large number of higher education institutions including two medical colleges.
Transport & Connectivity
Owing to its proximity to Bangalore, Tumkur enjoys well-established connectivity with both, the cities inside Karnataka and major destinations outside the state.
Air
Kempe Gowda International Airport, Bangalore is only 90 kms away (2 Hrs drive) from Tumkur. This airport has flights to and from all over India and the world.
Train
Tumkur Railway station has stoppages of most trains passing through this route. The station has regular connectivity to most major stations across southern India. For Northern India – Karnataka Sampark Kranti express starts from Hazrat Nizamuddin Delhi and passes through the station of U.P., M.P. and Maharasthra before reaching Karnataka connecting Tumkur to all these states. Also, Ajmer Mysuru Express, Bikaner-Yeshvantpur Express, Chandigarh-Yeshvantpur sampark kranti express, etc. are among many trains that form Tumkur’s railway connectivity framework. It is also worth mentioning that Banglore Railway station is just 64 kms away from Tumkur.
Road
Tumkur has good connectivity to nearby cities such as Bijapur, Hubli, Belgaum etc. among other cities within the state and nearby. Both public and private modes of transports are available. As the city is very close to Bangalore it only takes about two hours for the bus to travel between two cities. You can book tickets online for the journey in advance.
