    • ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel Corporation Limited completed the $6 bn acquisition of Essar Steel (ESIL). The companies have formed a JV ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Limited (AM/NS India) to own and operate the firm
    • ArcellorMittal SA has bid INR 48 bn to acquire Essar’s 1200 MW power plant in Madhya Pradesh. It is also known as the Mahan power plant, and will help ArcelorMittal gain a strong foothold in the Indian market.
    • Vedanta Resources announced its plans to invest ~ INR 60,000 cr in India over the next 2-3 years. Vedanta Ltd to set up a 4.5 bn tonne steel production plant in Jharkhand at an investment of about $ 4 bn as part of its newly acquired Electrosteel Steels Ltd. The final production capacity of the plant is expected to be 7 bn tonnes.
    • Over the next 5 years, Hindustan Zinc plans to invest $2 bn in India to raise its annual zinc production capacity to 1.5 MT from the current 0.8 MT.
    • Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) Russia decided to invest INR 800 cr to establish an electrical steel manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The next phase of expansion will witness NLMK making an investment of INR 6,000 cr.
