    • Ministry of Defense has released the amended DPP 2020, now renamed as Defense Acquisition Procedure 2020 inviting stakeholder comments. The revised edition driven by AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan now includes reforms pertaining to procurement via defense PSUs and acquisition of ICT systems. 
    • Tata Advanced System’s arm setting up defense facility in Hyderabad. The facility, coming up at the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd. (TSIIC)-Industrial Park near Hyderabad, will serve as a hub for the design, development and production of Command Posts, Combat Management Systems, Radars and Electro-Optic products, for DRDO and the Indian Armed Forces.
    • Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS), a joint venture between Kalyani Group and Israeli defense equipment giant Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, will produce 1,000 units of Barak 8 MR-SAM missile kits worth $ 100 mn over the next four years. These will be supplied to India’s state-run defense manufacturer Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) for further integration.
    • The Tamil Nadu government is eyeing investments worth $15 billion in the aerospace and defense sectors in the next 15 years to make the state a preferred hub for the two industries.  Investments worth over Rs 3,038 crore in this defense corridor were announced with majority of them from public sector undertakings.
    • Around 22 companies have got defense manufacturing licenses for Gujarat from the government of India, but most of them are awaiting long-term orders from the central government to start their operations in the state.
    • In terms of production facilities, Boeing has offered to set up a new production facility in India for the production of its F/A-18 Super Hornet fighters if the company gets contracts for a large number of fighters for both the Indian Air Force as well as the Indian Navy. 
    • US-based Carr Lane Manufacturing and Chennai-based Rialto Enterprises, part of the Rs 600 crore Rayala Group, have entered into a joint venture to produce specialized aerospace components, initially to export products to Carr Lane’s international market. The new 70:30 JV will start commercial production within three months and in the next 24 months, it hopes to achieve sizable turnover. There are plans to invest around Rs 80-100 crore in the first three to four years.
