Marine Engineering Eligibility for admission – The eligibility for admission varies from university to university.

There are a few key differences between Entry level eligibility and eligibility for admission:

• Students can take admission under Merit-Based quota. In this category, students will have to appear the exams as per the university level and score good marks in the merit. Accordingly, they can take admission in their preferred colleges.
• Also, students can take admission through management quota. Under this category, students will have to pay lump sum amount to the management. Also, some management of the colleges might take interview of the students before starting with the admission procedures.

• According to Indian Marine Fisheries Dept., India is the second largest fish producing country in the world accounting for 6.56% of global production and contributing about 1% to the country’s Gross Value Added (GVA) and over 5.37% to the agricultural GVA, fisheries and aquaculture continue to be an important source of food, nutrition, income and livelihood to millions of people.
• Export earnings from the Fisheries sector has been `45106.89 crores during 2017-18 and has registered an impressive average annual growth rate of about 19.11%.
• The sector provides livelihood support to about 160 lakh people at the primary level and almost twice the number along the value chain and the annual average growth rate in the Fisheries sector has been over 7% over the last few years.
• As per Invest India, “India is strategically located on the world’s shipping routes with a coastline of approximately 7,517 km. Maritime transport handles around 70% of India’s trading in value terms. The government has also introduced various fiscal and non-fiscal incentives for enterprises that develop, maintain and operate ports, inland waterways and shipbuilding in India.”
• The government Sagarmala Programme with a USD 123 bn across 415 projects incorporating Port-Linked Industrialization, Port Modernization and New Port Development, Coastal Community Development, Port Connectivity Enhancement.

• India has 12 major and 200 non-major/intermediate ports (under state government administration).
• Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust is the largest major port in India, while Mudra is the largest private port.
• Cargo traffic in the country is expected to rise to 2500 MT by 2024-25 from 1,072.23 MT in 2015-16.
• The major ports in India collectively handled 679.4 MT of cargo during 2017-18 compared to 648.4 MT a year ago; thereby registering a growth of 4.8%.
• 118 maritime projects requiring $ 7.7 bn investment have been approved in the last four years
• Major ports recorded highest ever capacity addition of 100.4 MMTPA in 2016-17
• Ministry of Shipping has waived waterways usage charges to promote Inland water transport. The decision is estimated to increase the inland waterway traffic movement to 110MMT in 2022-23 from 72MMTin 2019-20.
• Ministry of Shipping has separated the operation routes of merchant vessels and fishing vessels in South West Indian waters to ensure efficiency and ease of navigation.
• Logistics service provider Schenker India, subsidiary of German DB Schenker is going to double its warehousing capacity from present 3.5 mn sq ft across 53 warehouses and deploy technical solutions for improving efficiency and enhance processing speed.
• Bengaluru based logistics startup Blackbuck raises $ 150 mn in a funding round led by Goldman Sachs Investment Partners and Accel US.
• Essar Ports to invest $ 70 mn in Hazira Port capacity
• Dubai’s port operator DP Worldalong with The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) is buying Continental Warehousing Corp (Nhava Seva), one of the largest companies in the logistics sector in India for $ 400 mn from its PE investors.m
