Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery

Ayurveda is the ancient system of medicine known for its natural methods of treatment. The central council for Indian Medicine (CCIM), a statutory body, is the supreme regulatory body for BAMS course. Moreover, colleges and universities are required to obtain the permission of Dept. of AYUSH, Union Govt.of India in order to conduct the course. BAMS course duration is of total 5 and half years. In Karnataka, the course is offered under Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences, Bangalore. A person who has completed 2 years PUCs or equivalent with PCB and English can apply for BAMS course. NEET exam, conducted by NTA has also been made compulsory for taking admission in BAMS.

    BAMS Course Eligibility

    BAMS eligibility criteria can be categorised into entry-level eligibility and eligibility for admission in the desired college. The table below gives entry-level BAMS eligibility. Eligibility and process of admission to merit and management quota seats are also discussed below.

    BAMS Course Syllabus

    BAMS course duration is of 5 and a half years, which is divided as follows: Ist Professional, IInd professional and IIIrd professional each is of 12 months period and IVth professional of 18 months duration, followed by a 12-month compulsory internship. The first professional exam shall be held at the end of one academic year. Similarly, an exam shall also be held after completion of the second professional, third professional session. A final professional examination shall be held at the end of the fourth professional session. The final exam will be followed by the internship. Internal assessments will also be conducted periodically in the duration of course.

    BAMS Entrance Exams

    A national-level entrance exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission in UG medical courses known as NEET (UG) or National eligibility cum entrance test (UG).
