    Entry-level Qualification for Foreign Nationals

    • Foreign Nationals seeking admission in GNM nursing must have a qualification equivalent to 12th standard as prescribed above. Equivalency is to be obtained by Association Of Indian Universities, New Delhi. Institute and State Nursing Council will ensure that the qualification of the person is equivalent to those prescribed in the above table.
    • In some states, eligibility criteria may fluctuate depending upon reservation criteria of that state.
    • Maximum age limit for IOCL GNM is 24 years

     
    Apart from the entry-level qualifications prescribed above, applying students are considered for admission on the basis of merit of 12th class.

    GNM Nursing is a job-oriented course after 12th. It offers plenty of opportunities to grow your career. You can also choose to pursue a higher education after the course.

    Higher Education

    After a diploma in GNM Nursing, you can pursue higher qualification courses. These courses include BSc. Nursing (Bachelors level Programme), M.Sc Nursing (Masters level programme) and even a PhD. Many reputed Medical institutes In India offer Bsc, Msc programmes including AIIMS. You may also choose to pursue a further diploma in a speciality field.

    Jobs and Career after GNM nursing

    After completing GNM nursing and becoming a registered nurse you may pursue a career as a clinical nurse, staff nurse in a hospital or become a home nurse. A career as a midwifery nurse is also an option after GNM. You may also choose to become an educator in the field after further education. The report reveals that the existing nurse to population ratio in India was 1.7 par 1000 people against a stipulated ratio of 2.5 to 1000 by WHO. Similarly, in a piece published in April 2019 The economic times mentioned the study by CDDEP, US researchers which found that there was an acute shortage of 2 million nurses in India. Clearly there is tremendous scope in nursing careers as medical facilities grow.

    The average salary of a registered nurse in India is 294,090 rupees per year. In the initial years, nurses can expect to earn about 124 k per year while as their career proceeds in seniority they can start earning as much as 484 k per year.

    In Banglore city, the average salary for nursing staff is more or less the same as the national average. However, at the peak of their careers employees have reported earning a much higher wage of 550k per year in the city as against the country highest of rupees 484K.

    As a registered nurse, you can choose to serve either in the public sector or private sectors. However, some jobs may require higher qualifications like a bachelors degree. You can be employed by hospitals as a staff nurse. You can also work with the armed forces in the capacity of Nurse. You may also join organisations like red cross society. Alternatively, you can choose to get a job at training institutes for nursing as an educator.
