Overview

GNM is also known as General Nursing & Midwifery is designed to prepare general nurses who can efficiently perform as members of the health care team and capable of dealing the competencies in both the hospitals and other such organizations.

Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a three-year programme aimed to prepare students to work effectively as members of the health team. This job-oriented programme comprises subjects like Nursing Fundamentals Anatomy & Physiology Psychology Biology Sociology and First Aid.
GNM course trains students to closely assess the nursing need of the patients & monitor the condition of patients, provide effective nursing care and assist the doctors in surgical procedures. The students learn to set up medical equipment in operation theaters and adeptly handle patients during emergency situations.

General Nursing & Midwifery aspirants are also trained to be job-ready by teaching computer and interpersonal skills which help them in advancing their role. After successful completion of the GNM program the nursing students are enrolled for an internship that enables them to directly gain hands-on experience in healthcare sector.

GNM nursing course is regulated by Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. It is an autonomous body under the Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. GNM Nursing Course Structure

GNM nursing course is of 3 years of academics and 6 months of internship

  • I Year: During first year GNM students will be taught the subjects related to Bio science, Behavioral Science, Fundamentals of Nursing, Comunity health nursing. Subjects is I year GNM nursing are Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Psychology, Sociology, First Aid & Personal Hygiene, Community Health Nursing, Environment Hygiene, Skills Nutrition.
    In I year, students will appear for 4 theory papers and I practical examination.
  • II Year: During second year nursing students will be learning about the Medical Surgical Nursing (Pharmacology) & Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing (Specialties) subjects in theory and practical. Students shall have 3 theory and 2 practical papers during the final examination.
  • III Year:Third academic year during GNM nursing course is about Midwifery and Gynaecology, Paediatric Nursing, and Community Health Nursing in detail. Final year examination for GNM course covers 3 theory papers and 3 practical exams.
  • 6 Months Internship after completion of 3 academic years is compulsory to get the registration of GNM Nurse.

GNM Nursing Admission

Admission in Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course is on the basis of first come first serve basis in most of the nursing colleges in Bangalore. There is no separate entrance exams in Private nursing colleges in Bangalore for GNM course admission.
